WISE Platform for Drought and Flood Risk Assessment Gains Global Availability
What happened
A global risk assessment platform, the Water, Impact and Sustainability Estimator (WISE), has been made available to international users. The tool, which assesses drought and flood risk in agricultural regions, is based on the Soil and Water Assessment Tool Plus (SWAT+). WISE was co-developed by Texas A&M AgriLife Research, Texas A&M University, and South Korea’s Rural Development Administration. The international rollout was announced during the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Why it matters
WISE allows users to gain high-resolution insight into water availability and land-use impacts. The platform draws on decades of hydrologic modeling work conducted at the AgriLife Blackland Research and Extension Center. Its global expansion means the technology is reaching an international audience for the first time.
