Alstom's VIA Rail Order Limits Capacity for Amtrak Bids
What happened
VIA Rail Canada placed orders with Alstom for 45 hybrid diesel-battery locomotives and 313 passenger cars, intended to renew VIA Rail's long-distance, regional, and remote services. Alstom stated that this order, combined with other existing contracts, will utilize its available manufacturing capacity. The production timeline for the VIA Rail order is extensive, with pilot car testing planned for 2029 and series production scheduled for 2030 through 2035.
