What happened
Odisha reported its highest monsoon rainfall in the last 20 years as a weakening deep depression brought torrential rain, landslides, and strong winds to the state. The weather system affected six districts, including Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Kalahandi. Due to the heavy rain, officials ordered schools and Anganwadi centres to close in these affected areas. The weather system had also crossed the coast near Andhra Pradesh’s Kalingapatnam early on Thursday.
