Harvard Leads Electric Vehicle Adoption in Worcester County, MA

Zero-emission vehicle share in Worcester County jumped to 2.21% by January 2026, nearly quintupling from 0.44% in early 2021. Harvard led all 60 municipalities in the county in 2025, accounting for more than 10% of vehicle miles traveled from zero-emission vehicles. Overall, zero-emissions registrations increased by more than 12,000, while conventional gas-powered vehicle registrations dropped by 1,044 between 2021 and 2026.

Worcester County ranked ninth in Massachusetts for zero-emission vehicle miles traveled per capita in 2025. Despite the increase in zero-emission vehicles, the report notes that charging access remains a lagging issue in the county. The shift indicates a growing trend toward electric mobility in the region.
