Yorkshire Water Nears 500,000 Smart Meter Installations in Infrastructure Upgrade

Yorkshire Water is executing a five-year smart meter and water infrastructure upgrade scheme that commenced in Sheffield in January 2025. The company is nearing 500,000 installations across the region, with the program aiming to replace 1.4 million water meters with smart technology by 2030. Currently, 461,000 smart meters have been installed, including over 325,000 replacements in specific areas.

The program allows customers to monitor their water usage and helps Yorkshire Water identify and repair leaks more quickly. Since the scheme began, it has detected 16,300 possible leaks on customer properties, with 13,100 of those already repaired. The company estimates the program saves 16.5 million litres of water daily.
