Armenia PM Attends CIS Summit in Turkmenistan; Iran President Invited
What happened
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will travel to Turkmenistan on October 8 to attend the regular summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States Council of Heads of State. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has also been invited to attend the meeting in an expanded format. The summit, which takes place in Turkmenistan’s Avaza national tourism zone, will be chaired by Turkmenistan’s president, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Why it matters
The summit agenda includes discussions on security, law enforcement, and deeper trade, economic, and energy ties among the nine CIS member states. Turkmenistan is chairing the meeting as it assumes the chairmanship of CIS bodies in 2026.
