A delegation from Powerus, a year-old US drone company backed by two sons of Donald Trump, met with Pakistan’s military chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, in Rawalpindi on September 16. The company subsequently announced it had received a limited procurement order from Pakistan’s Ministry of Defence for unmanned aerial systems. This was accompanied by a separate memorandum of understanding with senior Pakistani defence officials.
Why it matters
The procurement order concerns advanced drone technology, and the company also holds the exclusive right to sell its drone interceptor technology to an Indian defence manufacturer. The deal is notable as one of the company’s cofounders is an Israeli military veteran, a fact Pakistan does not officially recognize.
