Thailand Targets Tourism to Counter Inflation and Stimulate Domestic Economy

Thailand is currently leveraging tourism to stimulate its economy through ambitious government strategies. This push comes as the country grapples with rising living costs, which saw headline inflation accelerate to 2.53% in August 2026, driven primarily by increased fuel and food prices. To mitigate these cost pressures, a new 50:50 domestic travel co-payment scheme is being implemented to subsidize hotel stays, local flights, and dining.
